Grenfell Tower Inquiry  – The phase 1 report of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry has been published.

Changes to Part L and Part F of the Building Regulations  – Updates have been made to the MHCLG consultation: The Future Homes Standard: changes to Part L and Part F of the Building Regulations for new dwellings. This is also available to view.

BS ISO 21239  – The draft for BS ISO 21239 – Thermal insulation products for building, reflective insulating products, specification, has been added to the standards development portal and is available to view.

BEIS publishes the next version of SAP – On the 24th July 2018 the department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published the next version of SAP, known to industry as ‘SAP 10’. A copy of SAP 10 can be downloaded from here.

National Physical Laboratory Test Report  – The report, using five types of insulation product, details the calculations of the thickness required to reduce the heat loss or heat gain from specified applications by 90%

U-value and Condensation Risk Calculation Competency – The BBA has introduced a Scheme for assessing and monitoring U-value and condensation risk calculation competency which will promote and assist accurate, objective and consistent calculation of U-values and condensation risk within buildings. BS5970 – Combustion of fossil fuel is a major cause of the “greenhouse effect”, the term given to global warming caused by the build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, principally carbon dioxide, which inhibits the re-radiation of heat from the Earth. This British Standard acknowledges that the application of thermal insulation leads to a reduction in these greenhouse gases.

BS5422 – There has been an update to an important standard for thermal insulation – BS 5422 ‘Method for specifying thermal insulating materials for pipes, tanks, vessels, ductwork and equipment operating within the temperature range -40°C to +700°C’.
